Madisin Rian will make her debut in this year’s SI Swimsuit issue. In 2018, a decade after entering the modeling industry, she became the first Black woman to be the face of Armani Beauty.

Throughout her years working with notable brands like Tiffany & Co., Polo Ralph Lauren, Stuart Weitzman and more, she has picked up a thing or two about beauty and wellness, and how the two intersect.

Rian describes two moments when she feels her sexiest—and they couldn’t be more opposite.

“I find that during the day when it’s just a fresh face out of the shower [with] just a light tank top and sweatpants on, I feel really confident,” she explains. “At night, I love a bold makeup look with a nice dress and nice heel. I love to switch it up a little bit and have fun.”

Rian knows that beauty truly stems from within, but she’s a creature of habit. She says she has found a few specific acts of self-care that work to help her be her best on the inside and outside.

“I spend a lot of time meditating. I love reading, I love taking baths, lighting a candle, maybe having a glass of wine,” she says. “I’m really big on spending alone time and taking myself away from the chaos of the world sometimes.”

Below are Rian’s four simple but effective beauty and wellness tips.

  1. Get some rest. “I believe in rest. Resting is so important,” she says. “It’s a big part of like the balance that I keep in my life.”
  2. Drink water.
  3. Invest in a good lotion. Rian loves Kiehl’s Creme de Corps Whipped Body Butter ($33.75), as well as natural moisturizers like cocoa butter and coconut oil.
  4. Light a candle. “I find that candles just calm me and create a zone of me feeling happy and feeling good and zen,” she says. “You can never have too many candles. I burn like a candle a day, it’s ridiculous. A candle a day makes everything go away.”
