Malta

Where did we go?

Malta, a history-steeped island group in the Mediterranean between Sicily and Tunisia.

Why did we go?

For centuries, world powers have been attracted to Malta because of its strategic location. We were drawn more by its broad aesthetic appeal. Its cobblestone streets and limestone buildings offered a quaint urban setting, while the Azure Window, the Dingli Cliffs (which served as a setting for Game of Thrones) and the salt pans on the island of Gozo provided unique natural backdrops.

What did we do?

Our most fascinating excursion was a trip to explore the main island's underground catacombs, some of which served as shelters for Maltese residents when the area was bombed during World War II.

Where did we stay?

The Corinthia Hotel St. George's Bay, which is just a 10-minute walk from Malta's nightlife center. Each of the hotel's 249 rooms and suites sits on the bay.

What did we eat?

With seven restaurants and two bars at the hotel, guests have plenty of choices. We particularly enjoyed the combination of French and Mediterranean cuisine at the Vinotheque bistro.

What did we bring home?

We won't be running out of sea salt anytime soon. Sadly, the same can't be said of qubbajt, a nougat treat often made with almonds or hazelnuts. Those got eaten up pretty quickly.
