Naomi Osaka Teams Up With Levi’s for Upcycled Denim Collection

The collab features pieces inspired by her Japanese heritage.

SI Swimsuit cover model and tennis star Naomi Osaka has teamed up with Levi’s to create a limited edition womenswear collection that pays respect to her Japanese heritage. Earlier this year Osaka appeared in the brand's campaign for its signature 501 jeans. Now she's back with a collection that emphasizes sustainability by focusing on upcycled denim. The four signature pieces combine striking femininity with a sporty attitude. You can find Osaka’s collection available at select Levi’s stores as well as exclusively on the Levi’s app.

Osaka’s collection includes a denim kimono with matching obi belt, a bustier top, and two styles of shorts, one a vintage 501 short decorated with crystal fringe and the other knee-length with a lace-up detail embellishing the back. “I always loved wearing kimonos when I was a kid. So, to be able to do it in denim felt really different and a bit unexpected.” Osaka told Women’s Wear Daily. That being said, this collection is showcasing all the unexpected ways denim can be used. The bustier is created using repurposed trucker jackets while the other pieces utilize the cult favorite, the 501 short, and even scraps of men’s vintage jeans.

Osaka’s partnership with Levi’s is among many other fashion ventures in the two-time U.S. Open champion’s repertoire. From creating a limited edition tennis racket with artist Takashi Murakami, to becoming a Louis Vuitton brand ambassador, to partnering with Frankies Bikinis, Nike and Adeam (just to name a few), Osaka is taking the world by storm on and off the court this year. Having had a lifelong love for fashion and hopes to create future collections, this collaboration is just another step on her journey to creating a fashion empire.
