We’re Utterly Obsessed With Shay Mitchell’s Fitted and Dramatic Brown Leather Catsuit

Here’s the best example of monochromatic winter layering that we’ve seen in a while.

Street style doesn’t have just one iteration. City dressing is a wide-ranging pursuit. But if there is one word that we could (typically) use to describe it, it would be “dramatic.”

There is just something about the edge that people bring to the city streets—particularly in places like New York—that isn’t replicated elsewhere, or at least, not on such a large scale. Everyone in the city strives to bring a little bit of refinement and drama to their style, and edge is expected.

This is exactly the sort of directive which Shay Mitchell was working with when she styled her latest big city look. Rather than opting for something simple, the Canadian actress decided to go all out. She paired a chocolate-colored figure-hugging catsuit with a billowy floor-length trench coat in a complementary shade of brown. To that, she added dark brown patent leather boots, a brown hat and a distressed brown leather shoulder bag from Miu Miu. For accessories, she opted for a simple pair of tortoise shell sunglasses.

In our book, the look was what we might refer to as a home run. She did everything right, which isn’t always easy when you’re working in monochrome. Mitchell managed to expertly style various shades of brown together into one coherent and succinct look, and we think that’s pretty notable.

From here on out, we will be looking to her style for all future winter layering inspiration. We think you should consider it, too.
