Nestled in an infinity pool with breathtaking panoramic views of Banderas Bay against a lush jungle backdrop and a mesmerizing sunset, I find myself sipping wine, marveling at the sheer luck that brought me here. Despite living near California’s coast and regularly enjoying many sunsets, each one never fails to inspire and calm me simultaneously.

Day two at the Secrets Bahía Mita Surf & Spa Resort has solidified a comforting and relaxing routine. While I may not label myself as an “adventurous” traveler, the fear of missing out propels me to pack my vacation schedule with activities ranging from multiple hotel stays and hikes to city tours and cooking classes. All-inclusive resorts weren't initially on my radar, fearing I might miss out on exploring nearby towns. However, my time at Secrets has made me reconsider, as I’m heading home so relaxed and rejuvenated.

Discovering Secrets Bahía Mita Surf & Spa Resort

Secrets Bahía Mita Surf and Spa Resort is shaped like a big U opening up to the ocean. The left side, called Dreams, is a family-friendly establishment complete with a pool with waterslides and daycare. The right side, Secrets, is for adults only. The center boasts various pools, and a stunning whale tail statue anchors the resort. Numerous bars and restaurants serve diverse cuisines, and breathtaking vistas are plentiful.

Location

Situated in Bahía de Banderas, the resort sits 45 minutes north of Puerto Vallarta and 30 minutes south of Sayulita.

Accommodations

The resort offers 278 spacious suites. Preferred Club suites offer upgraded amenities and access to the infinity rooftop pool. I particularly enjoyed the private plunge pool available on our balcony.

Culinary delights

While you might not initially think you would travel to Mexico to eat delicious French cuisine, think again. Secrets and Dreams Bahía Mita Surf and Spa Resorts boasts an impressive 13 dining options. Our dinner at Bordeaux was a highlight, consisting of scallops, oysters, escargot and coq au vin, accompanied by impeccable customer service. Other noteworthy meals included sushi at Olio and the Market Cafe buffet.

Wellness and relaxation

The gym at the resort offers daily yoga, spin and Zumba classes to help you stay on top of your fitness routine. Additionally, the spa offers numerous relaxing facial and massage services. A highlight of my trip was a couples massage that was included in the Beach Break Package.

The architecture of the Secrets Spa by Pevonia® at the resort is inspired by Marietas Islands, home of the famous “beach of love,” which I highly recommend arranging a boat trip to visit.

While summer months usually bring rain, the prime travel season typically spans from November to March. Despite my visit occurring in mid-October, which is off-peak, the experience proved delightful. Occasional clouds dotted the sky, yet the weather remained enjoyable throughout.

Final tips

  • The resort sits right in front of a great little surf break. If surfing is on your agenda, be prepared for rental costs. During our visit, it was $50/day to rent a board between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., and $60 for a 24-hour rental. You can opt for the Beach Break add-on package, available for bookings through Dec. 22, 2025, priced at $250 for two people and $425 for four people. It includes vouchers for surfboard rentals and a complimentary 25-minute post-surf couples massage for two.
  • If you want to plan a trip to the Marietas Islands, do so well in advance. The boat trips to the island are limited.
  • While the resort is all-inclusive, keep some cash on hand for tipping the incredibly helpful staff.

In conclusion

If you've never experienced an all-inclusive resort, I highly recommend trying it out. After our stay at Secrets Bahía Mita Surf and Spa Resort, with its rooftop infinity pool boasting unmatched views, my boyfriend and I are eager to return. Until our next escape, farewell to this slice of paradise on the Pacific Coast.
