Get A Taste of Bali with This Turmeric Tonic

Try this homegrown recipe from the Soori Bali hotel

Jamu juice is a health tonic consumed daily in the country of Bali. Every Bailnese family has their own recipe, often passed down through generations. Earlier this year the SI Swimsuit team visited this Indonesian island, and was lucky enough to start the day with this potent yet dulcet drink. Here the Soori Bali hotel shares their version of the juice with us.

Ingredients:

  • 1 liter of boiled water
  • 10 grams of fresh turmeric
  • 25 grams of fresh tamarind
  • 3 grams of fresh betel leaves (1pc approx.)
  • 70 grams of brown sugar
  • 13 ml fresh lime juice
  • 10 grams of salt

Directions:

Clean turmeric, peel off skin and blend. Strain turmeric and set aside. Mix fresh tamarind with the boiled water and strain. Put betel leaves into the strained tamarind mixture and boil for 10 minutes. Remove the betel leaves and mix strained juices and remaining ingredients into one container.
