Danielle Herrington was excited to be shooting her fifth SI Swimsuit appearance this past January in Hollywood, FL, but had no idea at the time something more exciting was brewing. That's because the 2018 SI Swimsuit cover star was pregnant. Yes, the model just revealed exclusively to SI Swimsuit that she is six months pregnant with a baby boy.
"I actually found out four days after my SI shoot," says Herrington. "I was five weeks pregnant at the shoot and had no idea. Having kids is something I've always wanted, but it was definitely a surprise. I was terrified when I found out."
The Compton, Calif. Native says that boyfriend Geron McKinley is excited to welcome a son, too. "He's been so supportive," adds Herrington, who is one of three Black women to appear on SI Swimsuit’s cover (following Tyra Banks and Beyonce). "My first trimester was so hard for me physically and mentally, and he has been there every step of the way. I'm so lucky to have him. We are literally counting down the days until we meet our little guy."
As far as how she's preparing, the Phillip Plein runway model is doing a ton of research.
"Once I found out I was pregnant, I downloaded about four different pregnancy apps," she says. "I've been reading everything I possibly can about pregnancy, labor and delivery. I went and bought books and even a pregnancy journal. Also, I've been talking to all the women in my family and asking so many questions about motherhood. I have nieces and nephews that I've been pretty hands-on with, so I'm feeling prepared for the baby's arrival. Now I'm just trying to get prepared for the baby shower."
The women in her family are also offering up their first-hand advice to the mom-to-be. "My mom always tells me to enjoy my pregnancy; it's only a short amount of time," Herrington continues. "And Geron's mom told me to moisturize constantly and always wear my bra, even to bed."
Of course, even with all the preparation in the works, Danielle is looking forward to the simple things. "I'm excited to meet him and hear his little cry," she says. "Also getting to know his personality and seeing who he's going to look like."
