WE'RE BACK with another Mailbag Monday. No amount of atomic threats (or unwarranted comparisons for that matter) can hold us down!

WE'RE JUST AMAZED SOMEONE SEES A SPORTS CONNECTION

Sirs:

I was very disturbed by the bathing suit display. I can understand the sports fashion value of the article, but was it necessary to exhibit the fashion trends in such a shockingly suggestive manner?

I, for one, refuse to patronize such an action.

OUR FIRST "WE READ IT FOR THE ARTICLES" CLAIM

Sirs:

Our heartiest congratulations to SI and Bob Ottum for the refreshing article about exotic Hawaii. Although preoccupied with the pictures, we found the article a relaxing interruption of our otherwise strenuous final week. We know that a great number of critical letters will pour in, so we thought that we would say 81 guys are loving the article. Just as sports-minded as any of the SI readers, we are eagerly awaiting the next scandalous issue. Our nominee for Sportsman of the Year is Bob Ottum.

THIS YEAR'S ISSUE WILL CONTAIN ADDITIONAL NOTES FROM THE 1970 BOWL GAMES

Sirs:

In my opinion SI wasted 10 pages of an issue which could have contained more coverage of the bowl games. It was, all in all, a very disappointing issue.

YOUR JEALOUSY IS SHOWING

Sirs:

Please cancel my subscription now. I thought SI was a man's magazine of sport, not a woman's fashion magazine. By the way, I've been to Hawaii and I didn't see bathing suits like that.

AN ENTIRE OTHER GENDER BEGS TO DIFFER

Sirs:

"Paradise Regained"? "Hell Regained" would have been a more appropriate title.

OUR FIRST "I READ IT FOR THE INNOCENCE" CLAIM

Sirs:

It was a splendid article, and the picture of the kids and the model racing along the sand was beautifully symbolic of innocence not yet lost, of inhibition not yet gained. What a pity that in our "advanced" plastic-and-steel culture such pure and natural expression of fun should be frowned upon.

THEIR SPORTS ENTHUSIASM IS INDEED STRIKING

Sirs:

SI does it again—another fantastic display of female sports enthusiasts.

CHOOSY MOMS CHOOSE SOMETHING OTHER THAN SI

Sirs:

The next time I subscribe to a sports magazine for my young sports-minded son, you can be sure your magazine will not even be considered.

HOW DID HE KNOW?!?

Sirs:

Since I know you will probably be swamped with "shame on you, my son looks at your magazine, cancel my subscription!" letters, I would just like to say thanks for a fine issue and some wonderful pictures. It is features like "City Life on the Water" and An African Journal (Dec. 20 et seq.) by Ernest Hemingway that separate your magazine from the other sports publications.
