Meet The Swim Team: Margot Zamet

Have you ever dreamed of working at SI Swimsuit? Well, we're giving you the inside scoop on what it takes.

The SI Swimsuit team is made up of seven women (yup, just seven) and we think it is time you got to meet the women behind the magazine. We will be doing a Q&A with six of the seven in the coming days, as Senior Editor, Darcie Burroughs is on maternity leave. First up is Margot Zamet, the SI Swimsuit Editorial Intern. Can you say dream internship?

Fun fact - four of the seven team members started out as interns/assistants in the Swimsuit closet, even Editor-In-Chief, MJ Day.

SI: What is your current job at SI Swimsuit?

MZ: I primarily work with Assistant Editor, Joanna Giunta on the fashion side of the brand. I spend a lot of time in our fashion closet styling shoots. We work closely with PR companies and designers to make that happen. Recently, I've been working with the whole team creating social content and coming up with ideas on how we can better connect with our audience.

SI: Where did you go to college and what was your major?

MZ: I currently attend FIT and graduate this May. I am an Advertising and Marketing major.

SI: How did you get your job at SI Swimsuit?

MZ: I consistently reached out to Joanna Giunta and asked to help in any way possible. When SI Swimsuit had the ability to hire an intern I was there and ready.

SI: How long have you been at SI Swimsuit?

MZ: I have been at SI Swimsuit for a year and a half.

SI: What is the best part of the job?

MZ: I would say the best part of the job is working with incredibly talented, boss women every single day - MJ, Darcie, Janine, Hillary, Joanna, Alyssa and every single model. Working on such a small team has also been amazing. I’ve gotten exposed to so many different aspects of the media industry. It also means that everyday is different and exciting.

SI: What has been your favorite SI Swimsuit location?

MZ: I have only been on two shoots so far, but I would have to go with Turks and Caicos.

SI: Dream shoot location?

MZ: Somewhere with an insane landscape like Patagonia.

SI: Favorite archive SI Swimsuit cover?

MZ: I’m picking two - 1993 because I live for a 90’s glam moment and 1988 because Elle Macpherson is the ultimate supermodel and the cover is sexy and strong.

SI: What are your travel must-haves for shoots?

MZ: I am the lightest packer ever. I try to bring clothes that serve more than one purpose and I plan outfits before I pack to make sure I only bring what I need. I pack a variety of bathing suits to avoid tan-lines, my dad's old button ups that I can wear on set and also tie into a crop to wear at night, at least two pairs of sunglasses because I always lose or break a pair and a cute baseball hat. My must-have beauty products for shoots are Supergoop Glowscreen and Beautycounter Dew Skin Moisturizer. Non-toxic sunscreens are also a must-have.

SI: What are some of your favorite swim brands?

MZ: Hunza G, Sommer Swim, Frankies Bikinis, Juliette, ONIA.

SI: What advice would you give someone who would like to work at SI Swimsut?

MZ: For anyone who’s in school right now and wants to work in media I would say to ask people in the industry if they need an intern or are hiring. If you follow someone you want to work for on Instagram, don't be afraid to DM them, even if it's just for advice. Companies don't always have the ability to hire and it can be competitive, but you want them to think of you when they are hiring.
