How to Make a Statement Belt a Wardrobe Staple

This is how you style a dramatic belt with your everyday looks.

Having a capsule wardrobe, with classic everyday pieces, is undoubtedly a great way to look put together and take the stress out of getting dressed. However, there can be a bit of outfit fatigue with this method. Sometimes all it takes is a statement accessory to completely transform the look and feel of your ensemble. My most recent accessory obsession to do so with is The Threesome belt by Kate Cate.

This over the top belt, as you may have guessed from its name, hosts not one but three bulky buckles. I was immediately drawn to it, and have been pleasantly surprised at how much wear and versatility it has offered. The waist belt acts almost as a corset because of its height, helping make any look more flattering.

I asked designer Kate Cate herself how she wears the piece: “I love to wear it over oversized white button down shirts or t-shirts that I often wear as mini dresses.”

Cate’s style has always relied on fewer, more versatile accessories. The designer launched her leather goods brand in 2017 as a working model who was used to having to pair down to travel in minimal luggage. Her designs are provocative with a feminine edge and highlight and old-meetings-new mentality.

For proof of concept on styling, here are three of my everyday looks styled out with this belt.

While I love this white Khaite dress, the belt helps tone down the prairie aesthetic and feel more my personal style.

Here I’ve paired it with my worn-to-death black blazer by ANINE BING. The belt works perfectly from the office to a night out.

Finally I’ve paired it with one of my spring and summer wardrobe staples, a simple black slip dress.
