Supermodels Josephine Skriver and Jasmine Tookes are not only friendship goals, they’re also businesswomen who are taking entrepreneurship by storm. While JOJA initially started as an online community for like-minded fitness enthusiasts in 2016, Skriver and Tookes, the brand’s cofounders, launched the activewear component of their business in early ’22.

As many of us choose to give our wardrobes a good spring cleaning at this time of year and make room for some new basics, JOJA’s Gymnasium collection, launched in late February, could not have come at a better time.

Tookes shares that she and Skriver drew inspiration from nostalgic ’90s style when designing the collection’s sports bras and leggings, which is evident in the SI Swimsuit-approved Topspin Sports Bra ($54) and matching Ace Legging ($94).

“Interestingly, Josephine is from Denmark, and all of her school gymnasiums had this old-school vibe that added to our inspiration,” Tookes says. “It was incredible how a simple idea for a name turned into a whole collection that embodied nostalgia and charm. JOJA Gymnasium now represents the perfect blend of edgy and old-school styles, which is exactly what we were aiming for.”

The collection’s sports bras and leggings are available in a number of vibrant colors, including bright blue and emerald green, as well as classic shades like sand and onyx. Creating quality pieces to suit different personal preferences while remaining stylish, supportive and functional are all integral components of the brand.

“JOJA is a woman-owned brand that designs with attention to detail, keeping women’s bodies in mind,” Skriver says. “We believe that every detail matters, and we put great effort into every aspect of our designs, from selecting the right materials to stitching each piece with precision. Our goal is to create clothing that is both fashionable and practical, making every woman feel confident and beautiful.”

In addition to the new Gymnasium collection, there are a few staple JOJA items that Skriver and Tookes agree belong in every woman’s closet: the Level Up Legging ($84) and Inhale T-Shirt ($54).

“These two pieces are our best-selling items for a reason—they flatter your figure, are incredibly comfortable, and feature unique designs that you won’t find anywhere else. Not only are these pieces incredibly practical, but they also make a statement,” Tookes notes. “With these pieces in your wardrobe, you’ll be able to mix and match effortlessly, creating countless stylish outfits that showcase your personal style.”

Skriver, a three-time SI Swimsuit model, and Tookes, a former Victoria’s Secret Angel, met through the industry and developed a fast friendship, which later turned into the lucrative business partnership they share today.

“Running a business with your best friend is motivating, uplifting and comforting,” Skriver admits. “Sharing a common goal and working with someone you trust and admire makes it easy to feel inspired every day, and it’s great to have someone to share tough times with.”

Since launching the activewear component of their business just over a year ago, the two say they’ve experienced tremendous growth and are incredibly grateful to their community of supporters.

“We’re thrilled to offer high-quality activewear that empowers women,” Tookes adds. “Our goal is to start a movement that promotes body positivity and inclusivity, and we’re just getting started.”
