Selena Gomez Claims Her New Lip Oil Is ’Never Sticky,’ So I Tested It

We were lucky enough to snag a sample, so here’s our full thoughts.

We love Selena Gomez, so it’s no surprise that we’re big fans of Rare Beauty here at SI Swimsuit. Gomez has done a fabulous job of making stellar products that amplify beauty, including her infamous, TikTok viral Soft Pinch Liquid Blush and her Silky Touch Highlighter.

Earlier in April, Rare Beauty’s collection expanded with the new Soft Pinch Tinted Lip Oil, and we were lucky enough to snag a sample. Lip oils are all the rage, with many brands such as NYX and Dior bringing them back from the ’90s, and Rare Beauty’s take on the trend is hard to beat.

Lip oils are usually in the consistency range between a lip gloss and a lip balm and are great for hydrating lips throughout the day while keeping them shiny–so let’s put this one to the test.

We tested the peachy-toned shade from the collection, Joy, and we were quite pleased with the result. Rare Beauty’s lip oil is not sticky, which is a major milestone as far as lip products are concerned. I’ve tried so many lip glosses and oils, including the popular Dior Addict Glow Oil, and my hair gets stuck in it every time the wind blows. Rare Beauty is different and strikes a remarkable chord. Its formula feels like water on lips, rather than a thick, heavy oil. The result is an incredibly thin layer that applies flawlessly, adding just enough pigmentation without the dreaded stickiness.

It wasn’t just us who loved the formula either–Sephora shoppers love it, too. One reviewer wrote, “I love this stuff!! It goes on so easily, and it wears so comfortably. Way better than lipstick,” while another added, “I’m always hesitant about an overhyped product, but OMG this stuff is good.

While the Joy shade looks much more natural than some of the other shades because of my skin tone, Rare Beauty also offers a variety of pink, purple and nude shades to complement a plethora of skin tones and color preferences. As someone who prefers a barely-there lip, I loved Joy because it added just enough color to complement my pigmentation.

What’s also cool about the lip oil is its cooling effect. It’s not overdone like the feeling you get when wearing a Chapstick or Blistex but is subtly cooling and refreshes and heals your lips. I didn’t expect the sensation when I first applied the lip oil, but now, I think it may be my favorite feature. And yes, it’s perfect for warmer weather, which is fast approaching.

If you’re in the market for a new lip product or just want to support your favorite actress, singer and mental health advocate, shop Rare Beauty’s Soft Pinch Tinted Lip Oil. There are only a few colors left, and based on our review, we’re not sure they’ll last long!
