Several professional athletes have made appearances in the SI Swimsuit issue over the years. Among the dazzling and impressive group is American professional surfer Alana Blanchard. She was featured in the 2013 magazine after her photoshoot in Las Vegas, where she posed for photographer James Macari.

At the time, Blanchard was in the midst of her professional surfing career with the World Surf League, having started surfing at the age of 4. Macari attributed Blanchard’s comfort and self-confidence to her professional career, which had brought her into the public eye for years. “She’s comfortable with herself—she, of course, rides these huge waves in Hawai’i and around the world,” he said while on set with the athlete.

Blanchard was excited to be featured in the SI Swimsuit issue and for the chance to collaborate on the design of the swimsuits she wore for the Vegas photoshoot. That excitement—combined with her self-confidence—certainly shone through in the stunning series of photos.

These days, the 33-year-old spends much of her time sharing a surfboard with her two young children and enjoying life alongside her fiancé, fellow surfer Jack Freestone, in Australia.

Though the circumstances look a little different, Blanchard is still an absolute legend on the waves and continues to spend much of her time in the water. And though her epic magazine feature was 10 years ago now, we still can’t get over the incredible pictures. Below are five of our favorites from her Las Vegas photoshoot.
