When Kim Glass traveled to the great outdoors of Banff, Canada, for her SI Swimsuit photoshoot in 2011, she traded her typical volleyball uniform for a more rustic, yet sexy, aesthetic.

The Los Angeles native traveled to the picturesque land to pose for photographer Stephan Wurth in front of stunning mountains and in rushing rivers. Glass donned several string bikinis and sheer looks and seemed at ease in front of the camera.

While on location, she credited the SI Swimsuit team, and particularly Wurth, for their creativity on set.

“It seems like everyone here, they just see everything like right away, you know, and the lighting’s awesome and I saw the pictures and I was just like, ‘I can’t wait to see them in the magazine,’” Glass noted

Three years before her SI Swimsuit feature, the 39-year-old was part of the USA volleyball team at the Beijing summer Olympics. In 2008, she and her team took home a silver medal.

“It’s not ever one moment. It’s multiple moments,” Glass recently shared while reflecting on being selected for the Olympic team. “Later on you’re waiting on the national team and you don’t know if you’re on. When you have that ability to fight and they tell you in that moment you made the team, it just hits instantly.”

Today, Glass works as a certified fitness trainer and regularly shares workout content with her 50,6000 Instagram followers. In honor of her SI Swimsuit feature 12 years ago, below are a few of out favorite snaps from the photoshoot.
