Canadian tennis player Genie Bouchard first posed for the SI Swimsuit Issue in 2017, when she traveled to Turks and Caicos alongside photographer Emmanuelle Hauguel.

The professional athlete, who was the Wimbledon singles tournament runner-up just three years prior, was clearly a natural on set, as she landed a follow-up feature the very next year. In 2018, Bouchard’s work with the brand took her to Aruba, where she modeled in front of James Macari’s camera.

The styling for each location was vastly different, as the 29-year-old donned several bright and beautiful neon looks for her very first SI Swimsuit feature. Meanwhile, her sophomore appearance in Aruba adopted a darker color palette, where Bouchard modeled an all-black color scheme.

Her wardrobe wasn’t the only major difference, however, as Bouchard noted that she felt more at ease in front of the camera the second time.

“It was definitely easier! I was much less nervous this time around,” she told SI Swimsuit. “I felt I had experience from my first SI shoot which helped me for this second one. I actually asked MJ [Day, editor in chief] to ‘go for it’ more in this shoot because I felt so comfortable.”

While we were blown away by both of the athlete’s back-to-back SI Swimsuit features, today we’re reflecting upon the initial one that warmly welcomed Bouchard into the family. Below, you’ll find a few of our favorite snapshots from the occasion, in which the professional pickleball player really nailed her poses.
