American model Sailor Brinkley Cook made her SI Swimsuit debut in 2017, heading to the beaches of Turks and Caicos for an active photoshoot by the water.

For the 25-year-old, the experience was something she had been working toward since she began modeling at 15, she said while on set in the islands.

Even though she had her eye on the feature since the start of her career, she still couldn’t fully believe it when it happened. “I just saw photos off the monitor of me shooting Sports Illustrated, and I can’t believe that that's me,” she gushed.

Though the whole experience was a dream come true, her favorite part of the day had to be the photos taken on a paddle board. It was also “probably the hardest shot of the day, though,” because of the incredible bathing suit she wore during the experience. “[I] was in this suit that was literally made out of rubber. The second it’s on me, the sun starts hitting it and I could literally cook an egg on my stomach,” she joked.

Overall, the experience was fantastic for the first-timer. And it was the crew who really made the difference for Brinkley Cook. “This shooting experience is going to be more memorable than even seeing the magazine,” she said.

The New York native returned to the issue for her rookie year in 2018, taking a trip to Aruba, and posing for a unique “In Her Own Words” studio project in New York. Below are some of our favorite snaps from her stunning Turks and Caicos feature.
