When Paige Spiranac posed for the 2018 SI Swimsuit Issue, she used the opportunity to reclaim her sexuality while also bringing the topic of cyberbullying to the forefront. She admitted while on location in Aruba that, at one time, she “stopped embracing the person [she wanted] to be, which is strong, sexy, confident and powerful.”

Today, the 30-year-old golf instructor has reclaimed all of those qualities and more. At the beginning of this year, we caught up with Spiranac to talk about her SI Swimsuit feature, which she noted was “one of the most important” photoshoots of her life to date.

“I was going through a really hard time where I was still kind of new in social media and [was] transitioning from playing golf professionally to doing media full-time,” Spiranac stated. “[I] was dealing with a ton of other personal issues, and I just felt very stuck.”

She reflected on the emotional journey she experienced throughout the photoshoot, and noted how empowering her time on location was with photographer James Macari, editor in chief MJ Day and the rest of the SI Swimsuit team.

“It was the most confident and powerful and empowered that I have ever felt, and I carry that now,” Spiranac added. “Whatever I do, that’s a big part of me and a badge that I’ll hold forever, being a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model.”

In honor of her ever-evolving journey as a golfer, content creator and model, below are a few of our favorite photos from Spiranac’s SI Swimsuit feature in Aruba.
