American professional athlete Aly Raisman is an undeniable force in the gym and in the wider world of gymnastics as well. The star has been outspoken in recent years, establishing herself as an advocate for empowering women, and particularly, her fellow women gymnasts. Both her 2017 debut in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue in Houston and her photoshoot the following year in Aruba were part of her push to celebrate women.

While on set with photographer James Macari in the the Caribbean, Raisman spoke to her view of the Swim issue and her participation in it. In addition to being “such a big honor” and something she has “always wanted to do,” being a part of the annual issue was important because “each year I think this issue gets more and more meaningful,” she said. “It continues to celebrate women and everything that we all stand for.”

The photoshoot with Macari was right in line with celebrating women and highlighting their strength. As soon as they arrived at the beach, “he started off first shot was a big powerful shot for Wonder Woman,” the three-time Olympic gold medalist said. “The shot was really really powerful, I love how they continue to make us look fierce and strong.”

Raisman donned several chic black swimsuits for the shoot, but her favorite were the one-pieces. Below are eight of our favorite photos of the gymnast sporting classic black fits in Aruba.
