A rookie in the 2020 SI Swimsuit Issue, Anita Marshall traveled to the Dominican Republic for her photoshoot with Kate Powers.

The influencer, who is signed with Dorothy Combs Models, used the opportunity to not only add to her own portfolio, but to represent fellow size 14-16 women in the annual publication. In fact, she told Fox News that the opportunity to pose for the SI Swimsuit Issue was incredibly meaningful to her on a personal level.

“Growing up, I didn’t see myself represented as a standard of beauty, whether that be in television, whether it be in a magazine—no matter where it was. I didn’t see me,” Marshall stated. “So being able to [be] that image that a little girl can see and say, ‘Oh wow, that girl has braids like me, how cool.’ Just being able to be that representation for another girl means the world to me. Another girl doesn’t have to grow up feeling, ‘Am I beautiful? I don’t know because that’s not what I see when I turn on my TV or when I go to the store and I look at a billboard.’”

In addition to embodying that “life-changing” representation, as she referred to it, the opportunity was yet another incredible accomplishment in Marshall’s modeling career. She’s also worked with notable brands like Essence, Good American and Lane Bryant.

Below, we’re throwing it back to a few of our favorite SI Swimsuit photographs of Marshall in the Dominican Republic, captured by Powers.
