Body activist Ashley Graham calls out comedy queen Amy Schumer for rejecting plus-size label
Ashley Graham is getting real about the term "plus-size," and we're falling even more in love with our 2016 SI Swimsuit cover model. Aren't you?
The brunette bombshell has landed the cover of Cosmopolitan's August 2016 issue wearing little more than a silky bodysuit, and is opening up to the women's publication about "church, sex and self-love." But perhaps most important, she's calling out fellow celebrity and comedy queen Amy Schumer for taking Glamour to task for implying she's plus size.
"I can see both sides, but Amy talks about being a big girl in the industry," Ashley explained. "You thrive on being a big girl, but when you're grouped in with us, you're not happy about it? That, to me, felt like a double standard."
Ashley goes on to discuss about avoiding the term "plus size" in an effort to create inclusion and a body positive culture.
"Just because I'm not calling myself plus size doesn't mean I'm not representing a woman who is," Ashley told Cosmopolitan. "I'm giving curvy women a seat at a table that we've never been invited to before—a table with high-end fashion people who have never considered us beautiful."
For more on Ashley's marriage to Justin Ervin and her history dealing with an abusive relationship, be sure to check out the full story when the August 2016 issue of Cosmopolitan hits newsstands on July 12.
