Ellie Thumann, a rookie in the 2023 SI Swimsuit Issue, may be known for her fashion and lifestyle YouTube channel, but with the publishing of this year’s magazine, the 21-year-old is quickly becoming renowned for rocking a denim bikini like no one else.

The Phoenix native traveled to Puerto Rico for her SI Swimsuit feature, where the styling on location was tagged “For the Love of Denim.” Thumann posed for photographer Derek Kettela in a number of blue jean-inspired bikinis and denim hued one-pieces. And while you’d think that denim swimwear would be tricky to pull off, Thumann did so naturally—so much so that she even incorporated the material into her everyday beach wardrobe over the summer. The influencer was spotted wearing a patchwork denim one-piece last month.

Thumann called her rookie photoshoot in the Caribbean “unforgettable,” which is exactly how we’d describe the images Kettela captured of her, as well. In addition to the incredible photos, her mindset while on location was incredibly inspiring. 

“I’ve gone through a lot of different changes with my own mental health, my own physical body and everything, but showing up as the healthiest version of myself is such a priority to me, especially after a time recently where I struggled with that,” Thumann stated. “Feeling strong and healthy is most important to me inside and out and mentally and physically, and I finally feel like that, and so I’m very proud to show that.”
