Emily DiDonato's latest for Armani Acqua Di Gioia inspired this little retrospective

WHEN IT comes to selling fragrances on TV, the best an ad agency can do is show you people falling in love while riding white horses bareback through a field and hope you make the connection. It's a nice visual, sure, but that kind of thing is so far from my reality that I can't even fantasize about it, unless it involves me bursting out laughing and then falling off my horse.

With the right camerawork and talent—let's say, oh I don't know, Emily DiDonato for Acqua Di Gioia—though, those 30 seconds can have such a transfixing (and thirst-inducting) effect that you just might be moved to give the product a try. If you're me that means flipping through all your back issues of Vogue to find the right scent strip, then checking out Jetsetter for some sort of transcendent beach getaway.

BTW: Emily, I'm looking to buy a bridge in Brooklyn, so if you know of anything . . .
