After she began snowboarding at age 8, Teter turned pro in 2002. At 19, she won a gold medal in the halfpipe event at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy. The same year she posed for the SI Swimsuit Issue, Teter earned a silver medal at the Olympic Games in Vancouver.

While the 36-year-old had the opportunity to pose with her snowboard on location with the SI Swimsuit team, the athlete admitted being in a bikini put her a little bit outside of her comfort zone.

“Growing up in Vermont in the middle of the woods, I just never ever dreamed about being in Sports Illustrated and doing just bathing suit stuff and half-nude stuff and just like being risqué,” she said at the time.

Today, the three-time Olympian continues to follow her passion and regularly shares life updates with her 298,000 Instagram followers. In June, Teter got back to her roots by attending the 2023 Special Olympics in Berlin.

“The energy in the air is electric as athletes from all over the world come together to showcase their incredible talents and unyielding spirit!⚡️,” she wrote of her experience.

Below are six photos from Teter’s SI Swimsuit feature, captured by Warwick Saint, that showcase the athlete in her natural element: with her snowboard.
