Megan Fox Opens Up About Being More Than Just an Actress

To hear her tell it, Megan Fox only identifies as an actress “sometimes.” She’s so much more than the star of Jennifer's Body, Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen, Till Death and other cult-classic big-screen films and television shows. Her favorite part about acting is the “high level” of adventure that comes with it. She recalls filming Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen where she was able to climb on the outer parts of the Great Pyramid of Giza—something no one has ever been allowed to do. This year, Fox is embarking on another new adventure as one of four 2023 SI Swimsuit Issue cover models.

“I hope that the photos are beautiful and that the frequency that comes off of them is just a healthy, good girl,” she says while on the set of her cover photo shoot with Greg Swales in the Dominican Republic. “I hope people take away that I’m a thoughtful, articulate, deep person.”

Thoughts on motherhood

The 36-year-old says that of all her accomplishments to date, she is most proud of being a mom and is confident in the way she has chosen to raise her three sons, whom she shares with ex-husband Brian Austin Green.

“The oldest one, [Noah, 10,] is an artist,” Fox gushes, adding that he has a lot of Libra and Pisces energy. “[It] blows my mind how talented he is.”

Her middle child, 9-year-old Bodhi, is more of a “little bro,” she says, adding that he’s never done one thing wrong or told a single lie. “The classic middle child where there’s no room to be bad,” Fox notes.

And the youngest, Journey, 6, is “naughty and mischievous,” but also “charming and so so cute,” according to Fox.

“When he was 3, he already knew like 1,600 species of dinosaurs,” she continues. “So his mind is very powerful.”

Fox says she is happy with the relationship she has cultivated with her sons. While she often struggles with the way the public sees her and is on an ongoing journey with self-love and body dysmorphia, being a mother is a role she is super comfortable with. In fact, it’s an area in which she knows she “thrives” and “excels.”

“When I step back, I know how connected I am and I’ve always been and how present I’ve always been,” she proudly says. “I see the reflection of the type of mother that I am in their eyes and in their behavior.”

Her lasting legacy

When Fox began her acting career, she says she never really did things with her “legacy” in mind. What she says has been notably rewarding, however, is when people tell her that she is the reason they realized they were queer or had the courage to come out to their community. Those types of messages mean so much more to Fox than positive comments about her appearance, body or talent.

“I think that the greatest testament to something like that, that can be considered a legacy, is having somebody tell me that I somehow had a part in giving them the courage to realize who they are—[it’s] the best compliment I can imagine,” she says.
