Mia Kang Brings the Power in These Fierce Boxing Photos
Muay Thai fighter Mia Kang is trying her hand at traditional boxing and looking absolutely powerful doing so. The British-Swiss model, who was photographed for the 2016 and ’17 SI Swimsuit Issues, dropped a fierce duo of Instagram photos on Dec. 15. The 34-year-old donned black leggings and a soft white mock neck cropped tank, and paired the athleisure look with black boxing gloves.
She covered her face with her hands, allowing only her eyes and nose to peek through as she posed for a close-up snapshot in the cover photo. In the next, Kang was captured roundhouse kicking a punching bag with one arm extended and the other hand in front of her face. Her long slick black ponytail swung around and she rocked a fresh glowy glam look, including sleek brows, rosy blush and a matte sheer mauve lip.
“Motivated,” the Hong Kong-born model captioned the post she shared with her 284,000 followers. Kang tagged her location as Las Vegas.
“I love these!” Kang’s boyfriend, UFC star Khalil Rountree Jr., commented.
“Ooowweeee ❤️🔥,” Michalle Wolski Tramell added.
“Let’s gooo 🔥🔥,” Sean Fagan cheered.
“Look at that form👏👏👏,” one fan applauded.
Kang, who published her memoir, Knockout, in 2020, has built her platform as a body positivity advocate. She encourages the idea that are multiple versions of beauty and your body doesn’t define you in any way. She is also candid about her body image issues and eating disorders she struggled with while growing up.
“I’ve been told everything from you need to straighten your hair and stay out of the sun to look more Asian, or you need to curl your hair and smile with your eyes wider to seem more Caucasian. You’re just not tall enough; you’re not skinny enough,” Kang said about the modeling industry. “It’s always been me criticizing myself and getting used to hating myself based on what others have said. It drove me insane after so many years of it. I just woke up one day and was like, ‘Why am I trying to be something that I’m not? Why do you get to tell me what is and isn’t beautiful?’ We have these extreme ideas of beauty. Whether it’s encouraging women to be so thin they have a thigh gap and your collarbones showing or telling them to get injections to have a disproportionate booty. More women suffer than we know and life is too short to wake up and look in the mirror hating what you see.”
