From the court to the beaches, the athlete knows how to make a statement.

Of the impressive athletes to receive a call up for a feature in the 2018 SI Swimsuit Issue, one was powerhouse American professional tennis player Sloane Stephens. The one-time Grand Slam champion headed to the beaches of Aruba with photographer James Macari for her debut.

It was a highly anticipated experience for the Florida native. “I’m so excited, I cannot wait,” she gushed on the set of her photoshoot. I’m gonna be on rocks and beaches and horses, and I’m so excited.

Stephens first found out about her feature following the 2018 US Open tennis tournament. Though she went to the SI Swimsuit offices and heard the news from editor in chief MJ Day herself, she still couldn’t really believe it.

As a professional tennis player, posing for a photoshoot in a series of swimsuits was “not the most comfortable thing,” she admitted. Despite the nerves, the athlete jumped right in, and soon got the hang of it. “It took a little push, but once I got past that barrier, I [was] on a whole [other] level,” she said.

The sentiment is not hard for us to believe. From the look of the stunning photos, we can tell that Stephens was bringing her A-game in the Caribbean. Here are six of our favorites from the trip.
