SI Swimsuit 2020 Rookie: Josephine Skriver

Get to know SI Swimsuit 2020 rookie Josephine Skriver!

If you had three wishes, what would they be?
I would love to be able to teleport, I would rid the world of hatred, and of course, have the Raiders win a Super Bowl.

If you could personally witness any event in history, what would it be?
The first step on the moon. If I witnessed it that would mean I would have been on the moon, too, and being the sci-fi and science nerd that I am, the idea of going to outer space would make many dreams come true.

What is something that you have never done that you want to do?
Though I am an avid traveler there are still SO many places in the world I have yet to see so going to those cities and countries are all on my list. The world is so big and beautiful and I just want to experience as much as possible and meet as many people from as many different cultures as I can while I am alive.

What’s your most embarrassing moment?
Once I was shooting on a beach and trying my best to do a sexy bikini pose near the water and a big wave came from behind me and laid me out. It just completely threw me down into the sand like a rag doll. I woke up next day to the video going viral on the internet. I’ve never been so embarrassed but also never laughed that hard. It really was comical.

What’s the most regrettable beauty trend you’ve ever tried?
I’ve had to bleach my eyebrows for a few photoshoots and let’s just say it wasn’t a very flattering look on me.

If you could hear one song performed live by any musician what would it be?
“Teenager” by My Chemical Romance. I had an emo phase growing up and sang along to that album at the top of my lungs. My mom probably knows every word, having heard me sing it so loud and proud from my bedroom.

What’s something people wouldn’t know about you?
I hate shopping and getting dressed up. People assume because I’m a model I must love to shop and wear all kinds of brands but in reality I just want to wear boys clothes and walk around in sweats and no makeup on. That’s when I feel the most like me!

In a world full of influencers, who influences you most?
My mother most of all. In a world full of powerful, strong, and kind women, she is the greatest of all. Not sure how I got so lucky in having a mother like her.

What motivates or inspires you?
Being the best version of myself. I like to push my limits and see how far I can go, just to see how strong I can be mentally and physically. I’m competitive and look up to athletes such as Serena Williams and Kobe Bryant so their work ethic and grit has really inspired me over the years.

Do you have a self-care ritual or a creative pursuit?
Reading. I’m a bookworm and love to get lost in other fantasies and universes. I find that if I’m really stressed or have had a crazy week at work, lighting some candles and curling up in bed with a good book does wonders.

What’s the worst holiday gift you ever received?
Socks. I know so many people can relate. Does anyone really want socks as a gift?

What’s your guilty pleasure snack?
I’m a sucker for real black licorice. It’s a serious problem. If I see any it takes every ounce of strength in me to walk away sometimes. It’s evil how good that is but love rewarding myself with them whenever I can. It’s hard to find good licorice in America, though. It’s the first thing I have when I’m home in Denmark and the one thing I ask friends and family to bring when they come visit.

Looking back, what advice would you give to your 14-year-old self?
I would tell myself how proud I should be to be a woman. Women are strong. We are brave. We are powerful. We can be anything we want to be and don’t let anyone break your spirit or make you ever think otherwise.
