During her rookie year in 2018, model Kate Wasley double dipped for two incredible features with the SI Swimsuit Issue. She traveled to Aruba, where she was photographed along the beach by Yu Tsai, and also participated in a unique black-and-white studio session called “In Her Own Words,” which was captured by Taylor Ballantyne.

When she posed for the magazine, Wasley had only been modeling for two years, but had a desire to be the change she wanted to see in the industry.

“I want to see more plus-sized models in advertising, especially in main brands,” she told SI Swimsuit at the time. “There’s a lot of progress, but there’s still only a few, mature brands using plus-sized models. I want to see it more in younger brands. I want to see the Australian market take it up as well. And I just want to keep inspiring women however I can.”

Today, she 29-year-old Australian model uses her online platforms to advocate for self-love while also owning her “get ready with me” TikTok series that showcases clothing from popular brands like H&M, Showpo and SKIMS on a size 20 frame.

While she admitted that her photoshoot in the Caribbean featured “all tiny bikinis” that she wouldn’t typically wear in real life, we would have never guessed, based on her self-assured nature in front of the lens.
