American model and swimsuit designer Allie Ayers returned to the SI Swimsuit Issue in 2021, making her second appearance in the annual magazine as a Swim Search finalist. She travelled to the beaches of Atlantic City for her feature alongside Yu Tsai and 12 other open casting call finalists.

Ayers has been modeling since she was a teenager and she continues to pursue her profession to this day. In fact, it was that first SI Swimsuit feature in 2018 that changed the trajectory of her career and encouraged her to continue pursuing modeling.

“Right before this happened for me, I was planning on going back and getting a job in Austin, Texas, and getting a ‘big girl’ job. I thought I was done with modeling,” she said. “And so, it’s an interesting twist in my own mind to realize that if this hadn’t happened I would just be doing my ‘big girl’ job like not modeling at all. So, really this flipped the game for me completely.”

But on top of her modeling career, she is also an entrepreneur. After her 2018 feature, she founded the brand Bissy Swim, which makes made-to-order swimwear in an effort to reduce waste and protect the environment.

Today, we’re reminiscing on her second feature in the magazine—the one that never would have happened if not for the first, which encouraged her to keep modeling. Here are five of our favorite photos from the day.
