Having appeared in six SI Swimsuit Issues, Nina Agdal has had her fair share of stunning photoshoots. She’s spent time down South in Australia and participated in a cover photoshoot in the Cook Islands with Chrissy Teigen and Lily Aldridge.

In 2015, she headed out West to Utah with James Macari for a photoshoot in Canyonland. “Oh my goodness, is this even Earth?” she exclaimed on set, in awe of the natural landscape.

On an early morning during the photoshoot, the model set off into the canyons without a clear understanding of what she was embarking on. As they began hiking down, Agdal heard the plan and asked, “Is that what we’re doing?” in surprise. “In Uggs?” she continued.

After being told that she would be hiking a mile-and-a-half, Agdal turned to a park ranger and joked, “Is this proper attire for that?” pointing to her swimsuit and Ugg boots. The model took the challenge in stride, though, setting off with the SI Swimsuit team to reach one epic backdrop.

“It was quite a hike,” she reflected afterward. But ultimately, it was worth the final product, a series of stunning and unique images captured among the natural red rocks.

“I always love to do something that’s a little more… risky,” she said of the experience. “I just want beautiful pictures.”
