There is no better way to ring in another year than a day by the water.

There is perhaps nothing better than celebrating your birthday in the tropics. What could be better than spending your special day by the water?

We think this is particularly true for those of us with birthdays in the winter months. Nobody wants a cold and dreary birthday celebration. And, after seeing Anastasia Ashley’s birthday festivities, we’re pretty convinced that a warm, tropical destination is the only way to go.

The professional surfer was in her element for her Feb. 10 celebration. The 37-year-old traveled to an undisclosed tropical locale to commemorate her birthday, and spent the day—as is her norm—by the ocean.

In a video that she posted to her Instagram, the California native donned a black string bikini and strutted along the beach in the rising tide. With a light blue tropical drink in hand, she posed for the camera in front of a beautiful orange-and-pink sunset.

“Thankful for all the bday 💙 today,” she wrote on Instagram. “Life is a blessing🙏.”

“WOW beautiful Anastasia, you look amazing,” one follower gushed of the one-time SI Swimsuit model. She posed for the annual magazine’s 2014 issue, when she traveled to Guana Island for her stunning feature with photographer Adam Franzino.

“So beautiful,” another agreed, while others chimed in to the comments section to wish her a happy birthday.

Though she spends much of her time in the ocean regardless, there was something extra special about Ashley’s birthday by the water—and she clearly made the most of it.
