When Megan Thee Stallion landed the cover of the 2021 SI Swimsuit Issue, she became the first rapper to do so. She was photographed by James Macari in Miami for her stunning cover girl moment.

The 28-year-old, born Megan Pete, is a three-time Grammy Award winner and has also landed covers on publications like Elle, Forbes and Harper’s Bazaar. The year before her SI Swimsuit feature, the “Savage” singer was honored as one of TIME’s 100 Most Influential People.

“I’ve wanted to do it all my life,” Megan said of her dream of appearing in the SI Swimsuit Issue. “I was the little girl looking at the cover of Sports Illustrated saying, ‘One day this is going to be me.’ And I manifested it.”

During her beachside feature, Megan modeled several Fashion Nova swimsuits, from neutral-colored bikinis to bright monokinis, and felt at home on set right away.

“I had been training for months and I was super prepared. I got into the shoot right away,” she told People about her time on location. “[Photographer] James [Macari] said he usually doesn’t get into the water until the fourth or fifth set-up, but we were both in the ocean from the start. The day was perfect and I had a blast.”

The Texas native, whom SI Swimsuit editor in chief MJ Day called a “magnetic powerhouse,” released her latest track, “Cobra,” last month. She recently revealed that she’s not currently signed to a label and will be financing her own projects moving forward.
