Professional surfer Anastasia Ashley first hopped on a board and into the waves at the age of 6 and never looked back. The 36-year-old won the 2010 and 2019 Pipeline Women’s Pro and holds two National Scholastic Surfing Association championship titles.

“I want to be out there and show you can be a strong, fearless, independent athlete and be a woman,” Ashley told Refinery29. “Growing up, it wasn’t a cool thing to be a female athlete or a female surfer. It taught me to be strong and do what I love. For any female in a male-dominated sport, the challenge is proving that you really are a great surfer and not just ‘good for a girl.’”

The California-born model made her SI Swimsuit debut in 2014 and was featured in Maxim magazine that October.
