Jennifer Atilemile Makes Jean Bikinis Chic: Shop the Denim-on-Denim Look Here

Jennifer Atilémile, a rookie in the 2023 SI Swimsuit Issue, made history three years ago as Victoria’s Secret’s first Australian curve model. She uses her growing platform to advocate for body positivity and sustainability in the fashion industry. The Australian-French model, who has previously worked with MERIT, Maybelline and Clarins, is outspoken about the impacts of narrow beauty standards and is constantly encouraging brands and the industry to do better.

Atilémile was photographed by Derek Kettela in Puerto Rico for her SI Swimsuit feature. Styling on set was tagged “For the Love of Denim,” and each of the model’s suits were either made of denim or inspired by the fabric. The SI Swimsuit team worked closely with designers to create upcycled, one-of-a-kind looks.

The popularity of denim dates back to the 1950s, but the monochrome Canadian tuxedo look didn’t begin trending until the 1970s and ’80s. It was then that double denim began trending on stage and on television, with the likes of Blondie’s Debbie Harry and Charlie’s Angels characters rocking the look. What’s old is new again, and the look is back in style today.
