Maye Musk has been modeling since she was a teenager, and at the age of 74, became SI Swimsuit’s oldest cover model in the brand’s history last year. (This year, Martha Stewart took the crown when she landed the front of the magazine at the age of 81).

The model, dietician, best-selling author and mom traveled to Belize for her SI Swimsuit Issue feature, where she posed in a number of colorful, printed bikinis and bright one-piece swimsuits.

“If I thought I could be a swimsuit model for Sports Illustrated, people would have locked me away as a crazy lady,” Musk quipped while on location with photographer Yu Tsai. “And now here I am, and I’m very excited about the photoshoot.”

Musk’s professional résumé is endless: she’s been featured in a Beyoncé music video (for the Grammy Award-winning artist’s 2013 track, “Haunted”) and was named CoverGirl’s oldest spokesperson six years ago.

“I’m very excited that they’ve decided that even older women can wear swimsuits and look great," Musk added of her SI Swimsuit feature. “I think they’re going to give a lot of hope and inspire many young women to know that you can wear a swimsuit and look great at any age. Women around the world are going to be so excited, I think it’s really going to change how women feel when they walk out in their swimsuit.”

On that inspirational note, below are eight of our favorite snaps from Musk’s 2022 SI Swimsuit Issue cover feature.
