In the fashion world, mermaid-inspired garb was the talk of the town only a few months ago. And while we’re in full support of the trend, we’re perhaps more inspired by activities that get you even closer to the real thing. Why dress like a mermaid when you can pretend to be one instead?

At least, that seems to be the mentality of American professional surfer Malia Manuel. Consistent surfing is perhaps the closest you can get to a mermaid lifestyle, but recently, the 30-year-old strove to get even a little bit closer to mimicking the majestic creatures.

A recent reel that she shared to her Instagram featured the athlete taking her skills underwater, donning a black backless one-piece swimsuit and a pair of goggles and fins and swimming around the reefs on the ocean floor.

“Lost in the magic of the ocean. Like most things in nature, the longer I spend observing, the more I am mesmerized,” she expressed in the caption. “Being in the water brings me to a flow state and where I am the most ‘in the moment.’ Here’s a favorite memory of mine in the glistening underwater realm of the South Pacific with @breitling #superoceanautomatic - made for moments like these,” she concluded, highlighting the glistening watch that she wore on her wrist.

“Time underwater is the best 🙌,” one follower concurred with Manuel’s heartfelt sentiments.

“A Mermaid 😍😍😍,” another added, to which we couldn’t agree more. As always, her adventurous ocean content is making us want to pick up and move to the coast.
