Everyone is familiar with the sound that marks the opening or closing of each day’s trading session at the iconic New York Stock Exchange. On Thursday, May 18, SI Swimsuit editor in chief MJ Day—along with a roster of models and members of the editorial team—rang the massive bell located at 11 Wall St. to celebrate the launch of the 2023 SI Swimsuit Issue.

LSU gymnast Olivia Dunne, 2023 cover model Brooks Nader and 2022 cover star Yumi Nu all attended and signaled the opening of the largest stock exchange in the country at 9:30 a.m.

“I just want to say thank you to this entire team that’s here. I get all of the credit, but they do the lion’s share of the work and without them and these beautiful women who make up the pages of our magazine and their families who support them and our team and our bosses who support us, we wouldn’t be able to do any of this,” Day said at the event. “The SI Swimsuit Issue is so very different from what it was 20 years ago and without like-minded women that power this issue and grace its pages and do such incredible jobs of representing this brand and what we stand for outside of the pages, we would not exist.”

The 2023 SI Swimsuit Issue features 28 women who Day describes as “a group of women who, unabashedly, are who they are—not who they were yesterday and not who they will be tomorrow.”

“Congratulations, Brooks, on your cover because you have come from our Swim Search world and you have stuck with us and you have hustled and you have worked so hard. You have represented this brand with every ounce of your soul,” Day continued. “And Yumi, who was on our 2022 cover last year, [thank you for] everything that you bring to the table and how you represent us and how you very, very unselfishly have put yourself out there and had posted a lot of important conversations about inclusion and about self-confidence.”

Day gushed that she was the lucky one to be surrounded by such incredible women and to get to work with a team so dedicated to the SI Swimsuit brand.

“Livvy, thank you for also lending your talent and your message to this brand. What you’re doing for female collegiate athletes is extraordinary. You’re opening up a whole world of business and branding and conversation around that. Your blood sweat and tears... you’re paving the way for other athletes,” she added. ”These women take a lot of the world’s weight on their shoulders when they choose to do this and when they end up on the cover. They’re not only beautiful and brilliant, but they’re also very brave.”
