The SI Swimsuit team journeyed to Wyoming this past October and was treated to the most luxurious version of the wild, wild West at Brush Creek Ranch. Did they have roaring fireplaces, incredible chefs and whiskey tastings back in the days of the old frontier? One day we traveled to town and stopped at the Firewater Public House, where we encountered the Wyoming Rattlesnake. The Firewater Public House shared the inspiration behind the drink: “We took a 1930s cocktail and updated it with a Wyoming twist. Based on the classic Whiskey Sour, the Rattlesnake adds an extra herbal punch with an Absinthe rinse. In an effort to support our local producers as much as possible, we went with our favorite Wyoming rye whiskey from Single Track Spirits, full of spice and perfect for a sour.”
If you’re feeling a little adventurous and want to give Absinthe a go, shake up this recipe and have yourself what is sure to be an interesting Friday night.
Ingredients (makes one cocktail):
- 1/4 oz Absinthe
- 2 oz Single Track Rye
- 3/4 oz fresh lemon juice
- 3/4 oz simple syrup
- 1 egg white*
Wash a coupe glass with Absinthe. Combine all other ingredients with ice in a cocktail shaker and shake until cold. Strain out the ice, and shake again until very frothy. Strain into Absinthe-rinsed coupe glass. Garnish lemon wheel and serve.
*Consuming raw undercooked eggs, may increase your risk of food-borne illness, especially if you have certain medical conditions. Pasteurized egg whites may be substituted.
