Tabria Majors appeared in the SI Swimsuit Issue as a finalist in the brand’s open casting call in 2018. She has modeled for a variety of brands over the years, including Lounge, Cupshe and Bare Necessities.

“I honestly still can’t believe it. I’m here in the water about to pose and it’s still blowing my mind,” she said while on set with the Swim Team in Belize. “Yu Tsai is unlike any photographer that I have ever worked with. I think these are going to be some of the best pictures I’ve ever taken. This experience has been incredible—one of the most memorable of my life.”

Last year, Majors started the “Make It In My Size” (MIMS) movement after noticing that there was a huge lack of plus-size models and designers on New York Fashion Week runways. She shared an Instagram video expressing her thoughts, noting that as a size 16 woman herself, there is a very limited availability of trendy and comfortable off-the-rack clothing.

“The average size woman in the U.S. is between a 16 and 18. However, her shopping experience is vastly different from someone at, say, a size 4,” she added. “Plus size people are often an afterthought when it comes to fashion and it’s so unfortunate that we don’t have access to beautiful pieces like this. I often wonder why larger bodies have limited access to high-quality fashion.”

Here’s a look back at seven of our favorite photos from Majors’s 2018 photo shoot with photographer Yu Tsai in Belize.
