When she posed for the 2004 SI Swimsuit Issue, professional tennis player Anna Kournikova had just retired from her beloved sport the prior year. After going pro at the age of 14, the Russian-born athlete went on to compete in the 1996 Olympics and became a two-time Grand Slam doubles champion.

She traveled to Puerto Rico for her SI Swimsuit feature nearly two decades ago, where she worked with photographer Tiziano Magni.

“It’s like the most amazing magazine and I read it every year,” Kournikova said of the brand while on location in the Caribbean. “Just amazing shots and very artistic, and so it was a great opportunity for me, too.”

Her photo shoot featured lots of neutral colors, including white string bikinis and a silver one-piece with several stomach and chest cut-outs.

Today, the 42-year-old mom of three is raising her family with Spanish singer-songwriter Enrique Iglesias. While she’s not very active on Instagram these days, she occasionally shares sweet snippets of family life with her 1.8 million followers.

Below are five of our all-time favorite photos from Kournikova’s 2004 SI Swimsuit photo shoot in Puerto Rico with Magni.
