These Photos From Sloane Stephens’s SI Swim Feature in Aruba Still Have Us Speechless

The athlete is more than just a force on the tennis court.

American professional tennis player Sloane Stephens had a major year in 2018. The Florida native kicked it off with her first SI Swimsuit feature, which took her to the beaches of Aruba with photographer James Macari and a handful of other impressive athletes, including Genie Bouchard, Aly Raisman, Paige Spiranac and Brenna Huckaby.

It was an incredible feature, and one that we love taking the chance to reflect upon. Stephens stunned in a series of all-black swimsuits in front of rocky backdrops and deep blue waters for the occasion.

It was a meaningful experience for her, too. “I am so proud to be a part of this issue,” Stephens wrote in an Instagram post at the time. "Thank you @si_swimsuit for being such an amazing platform for women of ALL different body types. This one is for us, ladies ♥️.”

But it was only the start of a blockbuster year for the 30-year-old. Late that spring, the athlete reached the finals of the French Open, following up on her US Open finals appearance the fall prior. Though she didn’t win the French like she did the New York-based Grand Slam, her impressive run in both earned her her highest career WTA ranking. In July of 2018, she came in at No. 3 in the world.

Stephens continues to play professionally today. The past few years have been rebuilding years for the athlete, who is approaching this year with newfound enthusiasm. We’re rooting for another big win for the star. But, in the meantime, we’ll be admiring her 2018 SI Swimsuit feature. Here are a few of her best photos from the day.
