Skylar Diggins-Smith may be a WNBA powerhouse, but the Phoenix Mercury point guard proved she has just as much talent in front of the camera as she does on the court during her 2014 SI Swimsuit Issue photoshoot.

The 33-year-old traveled to Guana Island in the British Virgin Islands for her magazine feature nine years ago, where she flaunted her athletic physique in a number of bikinis and one-piece swimsuits—all in a gorgeous blue color palette—on the beach.

“I was absolutely pleasantly surprised to [be] asked to come out here and be a part of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue,” she admitted at the time of her magazine feature. “I didn’t really know how I was going to approach modeling swimsuits, I had never modeled in a swimsuit before, but I think I was really just wanting to get in and kind of get comfortable and I think as the shoot went along, I got more and more comfortable.”

Since posing for the SI Swimsuit Issue, Diggins-Smith has become a proud mom of two. After playing the entire 2018 season while pregnant, she gave birth to her son in 2019. She and her husband, Daniel Smith, welcomed their daughter this spring. Last month, Diggins-Smith opened up about not being allowed to use any of her WNBA team’s training facilities or resources while on maternity leave, which caused quite a stir.

Earlier this summer, the Olympic gold medalist was nominated for a 2023 ESPY Award for Best WNBA Player and attended the Los Angeles ceremony in style.

In honor of all of Diggins-Smith’s accomplishments both on and off the court, we’re throwing it back to our eight favorite images from her SI Swimsuit feature.
