Yumi Nu Was a Vision in a Variety of Earthy Tones During Her SI Swim Cover Photoshoot in Montenegro

The three-time brand star is also a singer and fashion entrepreneur.

Musician, model, activist and entrepreneur Yumi Nu is the epitome of a multihyphenate. The three-time SI Swimsuit model was first featured in the magazine in 2021 after her photoshoot with Yu Tsai in Tampa, Fla.,—the same year she landed on the front of American and Japanese Vogue. She returned the following year and traveled to Montenegro with James Macari, then made history as the first plus-size Asian model to land the coveted cover of the issue.

Nu gushed about the milestone and what it meant to her in an interview with fellow 2019 cover girl and six-time SI Swimsuit model Camille Kostek during the issue’s launch party celebration in New York City last year.

“It’s like a childhood wound is closing,” she said. “I get to be representation for people like me who are younger, and that means so much to me. This is truly groundbreaking in so many ways and we’re making history in so many ways in this issue.”

The Blueki founder, who is of Dutch and Japanese descent, was photographed by Amanda Pratt in Dominica earlier this year. Her ethically-sourced clothing brand’s mission is to provide anyone of any size with high-quality, timeless and flattering pieces.

The singer, who began singing lessons when she was 12, released her debut EP, Hajime, last May and dropped her latest single, “Vines,” on streaming platforms on Aug. 10.

Below are six of our favorite photos of the 26-year-old’s cover photoshoot with James Macari in Montenegro.
