6 Brilliant Photos of the Inspiring Tara Lynn in Australia
American model Tara Lynn was featured in the 2019 SI Swimsuit Issue after traveling to Kangaroo Island, South Australia, for her rookie photoshoot with Josie Clough.
Though she no longer holds the title (which now belongs to Kathy Jacobs), at 36, she became the oldest rookie to be featured in the annual magazine, or “the eldest," as she joked of her position ahead of the photoshoot. For her, it wasn’t just a title, though, it meant something. “That’s so exciting to me,” she expressed. “I think [the feature] means more to me now than it would have had I done it five years ago or something.”
We got to know the model a little bit better prior to her Australian photoshoot, and she told a moving story that spoke to the importance of seeing models in magazines who look like you. “I don’t know that I specifically wished consciously that there were more girls in magazines that looked like me, but I remember seeing one once,” she explained. “I was looking at Seventeen magazine, and I remember seeing a plus-sized model. She had like the exact same body as me, wearing a little lavender lace dress. I suddenly felt like my size was O.K.”
It was a “validating” moment for Lynn, she told us. And like the model she saw all of those years ago in Seventeen, we have no doubt she inspired the same feelings with the photos from her SI Swimsuit photoshoot. Here are a few of our favorites from the trip to Australia.
