Canadian tennis star Genie Bouchard came ready to play at her SI Swimsuit photoshoot in Turks and Caicos in 2017, bringing her spunk to the islands of the Atlantic. She accompanied photographer Emmanuelle Hauguel to the beach for her debut feature, which she followed up a year later with photographer James Macari in Aruba.

Though the professional athlete is used to the spotlight, SI Swim presented her with a new challenge.

“The first moment I heard I could be in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition, I was very excited but at the same time nervous,” she said while on set.

She was certainly up for the task, making a splash in the clear waters and playfully posing for the camera. “Just a casual day of posing at the beach,” she said with a laugh.

The 29-year-old danced around the beach sporting bright neon swimsuits and smiling for Hauguel beside a giant black swan inflatable. “He is from Paris and he was here on vacation,” she joked about the float.

Bouchard was able to overcome the nerves, in part, because the SI team made her “feel comfortable,” she said. Despite some initially daunting poses and outfits, with the help of the team on set, she relaxed and Hauguel was able to capture some stunning photos.

Her success was also due to her preparation. For weeks in advance, she planned and tried out her poses. “You have to get into the mentality of just trying to be sexy on the beach,” she said of her process.

Six of the most incredible photos from her photoshoot in the tropical paradise can be found below.
