Paige Spiranac’s 2018 SI Swimsuit feature came at just the right time. The golf influencer was beginning to gain major social media popularity—which of course, comes with negative comments from trolls. She was in the process of becoming a full-time influencer and it was anything but a seamless transition.

“Doing that shoot was incredibly empowering. Having MJ [Day, SI Swimsuit editor in chief] there to talk me through it the entire time and build me up, I’ve never been in an environment where I’ve had so many women empower me and lift me up, which is something that we preach all the time, but you don’t really see it in real life,” she explained. “It was just such a life-changing moment for me... and I carry everything that I’ve done in that shoot to everything that I’m doing now.”

Spiranac added that it was the first time she really felt secure about embracing and expressing her sexy side.

“It was the most confident and powerful and empowered that I have ever felt, and I carry that now,” Spiranac continued. “Whatever I do, that’s a big part of me and a badge that I’ll hold forever, being a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model.”

Over her years in the spotlight, Spiranac has learned to tune out the voices of people who think she is “oversexualizing” herself, and keeps sharing content she is proud of while wearing what she feels best in.
