Alexa Ray Joel Was a Floral Wonder During Her SI Swim Photoshoot in Turks and Caicos

Alexa Ray Joel might not have gone into a career in modeling, but she sure got the posing gene from her mom, iconic 1990s supermodel Christie Brinkley.

The 37-year-old, who is also the daughter of legendary singer Billy Joel, posed with her mother and half-sister, Sailor Brinkley Cook, for the 2017 SI Swimsuit Issue. The trio were photographed by Emmanuelle Hauguel on the breathtaking beaches of Turks and Caicos.

The classically trained pianist began composing music and writing poems as a child and learned her craft from her father. She released her first EP, Sketches, in 2006.

“Twas a most humbling and rewarding honor to be a part of your February issue.🌹👑🖤 Thank you @si_swimsuit & @mj_day for making me feel so at home. This was a lesson in learning to let go, take the plunge, and embrace myself from both the inside AND out- which is something I struggle with each and every day,” the New York City-born artist wrote on Instagram at the time of her feature. “My purpose is to now pass along this lesson of unconditional self-love and self-respect to every woman who's willing to listen. Once again, from the bottom of my heart... Thank You.~”

Brinkley described the experience of getting to model alongside her daughters as a “full circle” one.

“I can get very emotional about this. How many years ago, I was that insecure girl hoping that I would be good enough for the magazine. So to see my daughters now having the same thoughts I had, and to be able to see them actually be there on the job, was definitely a big moment,” she told the magazine. “I couldn't even believe my ears when I got the call that MJ wanted to shoot my daughters and me. I was thrilled.”
