Model Emily Ratajkowski made a major impression in 2014, when she joined the SI Swimsuit family and took part in two photoshoots with the brand. Not only did she pose for the magazine in a number of stunning bikinis while in St. Lucia, she also participated in a bodypaint feature, in which she donned nothing but painted-on guitar picks. The model returned to the fold the very next year, and traveled to Hawai’i for another jaw-dropping spread by the beach.

Since then, the 32-year-old mom of one gave birth to her son, Sylvester, and became a podcast host and a published author. She debuted High Low With EmRata last November, while her New York Times best-selling book, My Body, was released in October 2021.

“... I’ve felt objectified and limited by my position in the world as a so-called sex symbol,” Ratajkowski admitted to British Vogue the month after her book came out. “I’ve capitalized on my body within the confines of a cis-hetero, capitalist, patriarchal world, one in which beauty and sex appeal are valued solely through the satisfaction of the male gaze. Whatever influence and status I’ve gained were only granted to me because I appealed to men. My position brought me in close proximity to wealth and power and brought me some autonomy, but it hasn’t resulted in true empowerment. That’s something I’ve gained only now, having written these essays and given voice to what I’ve thought and experienced.”
