Model and ballet dancer Hyunjoo Hwang was featured in the 2020 SI Swimsuit Issue as a rookie after a dazzling photo shoot in Bali. She was captured by visual artist Yu Tsai for the occasion.

In addition to her work with the magazine, she has collaborated with major brands like Victoria’s Secret, Aritzia, Saks, Nordstrom, Michael Kors and Laura Mercier. She’s also been featured in publications like Harper’s Bazaar Singapore and Harper’s Bazaar UK. As a dancer, the 31-year-old has appeared in shorts Red One and Happened.

“With work, I get motivated by other models,” Hwang told SI Swimsuit in 2020. “Each one has their own vibe with their looks and attitude, which makes me start to wonder about their unique stories. I look inside myself and think about my own story as a person. Personally, the classics inspire me a lot. It’s because I grew up training in classical ballet. I loved it all especially the music and the movement.”

During her time on location in Indonesia, she modeled several stunning bikinis and one-pieces, many of which adopted a black-and-white color scheme. Hwang’s minimalist swimwear really allowed the breathtaking scenery around her to pop, while her skills in front of the camera were a sight to behold.

Below, we’re throwing it back to a few of our favorite looks from her rookie feature. Each photograph captured by Yu Tsai is just as stunning today as it was four years ago.
