Kate Wasley Sparkled in Paradise During Her SI Swim Photoshoot in Aruba
Australian model Kate Wasley made her debut with the SI Swimsuit Issue in 2018, when she double-dipped for two fabulous photoshoots with the brand. Her rookie year consisted of a marvelous trip to the tropical paradise that is Aruba with photographer Yu Tsai, as well as a special and powerful in-studio project captured by Taylor Ballantyne in New York City, titled “In Her Own Words.”
The 29-year-old is a strong advocate for body positivity, and she uses her online platforms to encourage size inclusivity in the industry.
“I want to see more plus-sized models in advertising, especially in main brands. There’s a lot of progress, but there’s still only a few, mature brands using plus-sized models. I want to see it more in younger brands,” she told SI Swimsuit about what progression she hopes to see in the years to come. “I want to see the Australian market take it up as well. And I just want to keep inspiring women however I can.”
While on location in the Caribbean, Wasley noted that she felt comfortable and at home, despite wearing itty-bitty bikinis that she wouldn’t normally gravitate toward. Her feature with the magazine was early on in her career, and it sure was a blast, especially because she got to pose alongside friend and fellow Australian beauty Georgia Gibbs.
“It’s really great to always to have someone you know and trust when you go on these massive adventures,” Wasley continued. “It’s comforting, you know? It’s great to share the excitement with someone who understands. When big things happen, my friends here kind of don’t really get the industry. It’s nice to share it with someone who knows what you’re going through.”
